cheap car insurance for 18 year olds

Finding cheap car insurance for young drivers can be difficult.  Young drivers are stereotypically bad drivers, and that means that most insurance companies will charge an arm and a leg to give them car insurance.  But do young drivers really deserve this bad reputation?  Do they really drive that poorly?

Actually, statistics indicate that they do.  While many stereotypes are only stereotypes, the reputation that teen drivers have for being dangerous is well-earned.  Young drivers are in accidents much more often than other age groups, largely because of their inexperience on the road.  But that doesn’t mean that anyone should give up on finding cheap car insurance for young drivers.  While it can be hard to find, it can be found eventually.

There are several key factors that can help young drivers find a cheap car insurance plan.  One key thing that young drivers can do is to get good grades.  While this may seem a little random, students with good grades are statistically better drivers, which means that insurance companies are usually willing to offer a discount if a teen driver can prove they’re doing well in school.  An insurance company will usually require proof – a transcript or other document – but they’ll also be able to lower their rates.

Another easy way to find cheap car insurance for young drivers is to look into the parents’ company.  By adding their teen to their own insurance plan, parents can usually get a better deal for their teen.  This is because all of the discounts and deals that apply to the parents’ plan also now applies to the teen’s plan.  The downside of this is, of course, that the parents’ plan now becomes more expensive.  With planning, however, this can still prove to be cheaper than getting a separate plan for the teen, and the child may be able to help pay for his or her own portion of the costs.

Making sure to follow the law will also lower insurance rates.  A young driver should be willing to go through driving school, and clear any tickets on his or her record by returning to school.   Parents may also want to make sure that they drive with their child once in a while, to make sure they know how well their child drives.  By keeping a clean driving record, a teen can still find cheap car insurance for young drivers; it just might take a little extra effort.
